The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT; Robins, Fein, & Barton, 1999) is a validated developmental screening tool for toddlers between 16 and 30 months of age. It is designed to identify children who may benefit from a more thorough developmental and autism evaluation. It is available for free download for clinical, research, and educational purposes. There are two authorized websites: the MCHAT and supplemental materials can be downloaded from Dr. Robins’ website, at http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwpsy/faculty/robins.htm or http://www.firstsigns.org.
I have translated the M-CHAT into Eastern Armenian to make this fast, efficient, and useful screening tool for autism available to the Armenian community as well. I would like to thank Mrs. Armine Kirakossian for her invaluable editorial skills and input in creating the M-CHAT Eastern Armenian translation which is available here in addition to Dr. Robins’ website.
Eastern Armenian M-CHAT Screening with Scoring Instructions
I hope this translation will help members of the Armenian community who are concerned about their children possibly having autism by giving them an idea of whether or not further autism evaluation is warranted. Please contact Janet L. Barsoumian at A1 Speech Therapy at (805) 242-TALK or email: firstname.lastname@example.org for questions regarding the Eastern Armenian translation of the M-CHAT.
